Seminar on Mobile Networking in Challenged Environments

Mr. Esteban Gutiérrez, from the Aerospace Research and Technology Center (CTAE) and Ph.D. candidate at UAB, will give the lecture entitled: "Mobile Networking in Challenged Environments". It will take place on June 04th, 2010, at Seminar A, from 16h to 18h.

Abstract: The Aerospace Research and Technology Centre (CTAE) is actively involved in the research and development of new technologies for wireless positioning and navigation. This talk will present the activities carried out by the centre in the area of Navigation and Communications with special focus on mobile networking in harsh (or constrained) environments. Harsh or constrained environments are those scenarios where the communications or navigation capabilities of the network are limited by external factors such as terrain, batteries, intrusions, etc . A reference project that addresses the issue of simultaneous Unmanned Aerial Vehicle teams management will be introduced along with an analysis of the improvements achieved in the team management by exploiting the inter-vehicular communications. Additionally, the basic concepts of Delay and Disruption Tolerant Networking (DTN) will be reviewed and a number of current space and terrestrial applications implementing DTN schemes will be outlined.
