The paper "Channel Estimation and Performance Analysis of One-Bit Massive MIMO Systems" that was published in IEEE Transactions on Signal Processing, August 2017 received the 2021 IEEE Signal Processing Society Best Paper Award. The award to five papers among all published in a 6-year windows (2015-2020) in the journals IEEE Transactions on Signal Processing, IEEE Journal of Selected Areas of Signal Processing, and IEEE Transactions on Signal and Information Processing over Networks. Gonzalo partipated in this work when he was Fulbright Visiting Scholar at University of California, Irvine, in 2015.
The paper presents an approach for channel estimation that is applicable for both flat and frequency-selective fading, based on the Bussgang decomposition that reformulates the nonlinear quantizer as a linear function with identical first- and second-order statistics and derives closed-form expressions for the achievable rate.
