ESA project: "HISENS - Techniques for High Sensitivity GNSS Receivers"

SPCOMNAV, as part of a consortium formed by GMV, RUAG Space and Tecnalia, has been selected to carry out the HISENS project of the European Space Agency.

The main objective of this activity is the investigation of high sensitivity multi-constellation GNSS signal processing techniques for use in weak signal environments that result from several use cases (indoor, urban, space HEO, LEO).

GMV is in charge of the project coordination and the implementation of demonstrator. RUAG Space will contribute the definition of requirements for space receivers. Tecnalia will provide the RF front-end and bitgrabber for the demonstrator. SPCOMNAV will have the leading role in the research of advanced techniques for high-sensitivity, in particular addressing:

  • Statistical characterization of non-coherent, differential and generalized correlations.
  • Detection and mitigation of the near-far effect.
  • Detection of multipath and combination of multipath rays to enhance sensitivity.
  • Adaptation of algorithms for robust tracking from previous ESA projects of the group also (ROCAT – Techniques for Robust Carrier Phase Tracking under High Dynamic, Strong Fading and Scintillation Conditions; ADAPT – Adaptive Tracking Techniques for Navigation Signals) to near-future space receivers.
