SPCOMNAV has organized a seminar on Social Networks in the framework of the UAB Master Degree in Design of Telecommunication Systems. The invited speaker was Dr. Andreu Urruela, from Telefónica I+D, who is a leading researcher in the field of social graph computing.

The talk was divided into two parts. In the first part, Dr. Urruela introduced the topic of Social Networks Analysis (SNA) and some of the most common applications such as community mining, churn prediction, recomendation engines and age/sex prediction. In the second part of the talk, Dr. Urruela presented some practical examples on how to implement SNA techniques using the MapReduce programming model, similarly to the one adopted by Google for its web crawl.
